Tues. Complete p. 410 #1-20 of the Writing Coach. (If you were absent from class, read pages 407 and 408 first.) Complete the prewriting sheet for your analysis essay. You can find a copy of prewriting worksheet #1 on Google Classroom.

Wed. Complete the second prewriting sheet by Friday. Complete p. 413 #1-20 of the Writing Coach. Be sure to finish all of your vocabulary work. If you did not finish unit 14, come in at 7:55 on Thursday morning to complete your classwork.

Thurs. Study for the spelling and vocabulary quizzes for unit 14. Finish the second prewriting sheet. Complete p. 414 #1-20 in the Writing Coach."

Fri. We are having unit 14 spelling and vocabulary quizzes today. Complete three paragraphs of your five-paragraph essay. Go to Google Classroom and follow the directions there to type your essay. Remember: If you don't feel comfortable with writing the introduction yet, then start with your body paragraphs. Use the information that you gathered on your prewriting sheets to help explain your points.

Week of March 6-10

Mon. No school

Tues. Complete the double-sided English worksheet over negatives and adjectives and adverbs. Review for your quiz. Read "The White Circle" and highlight any foreshadowing and flashbacks that you see. You can also make notations about any questions you have or any points that you want to make about the story.

Wed. Study for the adjective and adverb test. Answer the 5 group questions about "The White Circle".

Thurs. Adverb/Adjective test today. Define the vocabulary for the "Harrison Bergernon" story. Review the prewriting sheet for your essay and start considering which story you want to analyze for your essay.

Fri. Read over pp. 398-400 again. Complete p. 401 #1-20, p. 402 #11-20, p. 403 #11-20. Read "Harrison Bergernon" and answer the questions.

Week of Feb. 27-March 3

Mon. Complete Writing Coach p. 341 #1-20 according to the directions. Then complete the two worksheets, one about irony and the other about flashback and foreshadowing.
Tues. Complete Writing Coach p. 344 #1-20. Read the story "Stone Boy" and complete the assignment by following the instructions from the half sheet of paper handed out during class.

Thurs. Study vocabulary and spelling for unit 13 vocab.

Week of Feb. 13-17

Mon. Practice for your speech. Read AR. Complete parts A and B of unit 12 vocabulary/spelling.
Tues. If you have not given your speech yet, continue to practice it. Complete part C of unit 12 vocabulary. Read AR.
Wed. If you have not given your speech yet, continue to practice it. Finish part D of unit 12 vocabulary. Be sure that you have completed the entire unit 12 since we will be checking it on Thursday. Start studying for the spelling and vocabulary quizzes that will be given on Friday.
Thurs. Be sure to review p. 370 in the literature book to understand irony. Then read the short story "After Twenty Years" twice so that you understand what has happened in the story. Study for the vocabulary and spelling quizzes over unit 12.
Fri. Read AR.

Week of Feb. 6-10

Mon. Continue to work on your research paper. If you have not completed the Works Cited page, do so. For those who have been here, your paper is due on Tuesday, Feb. 7, by the end of class.
Tues. Students should have finished and turned in their research papers today. Read AR.
Wed. Work on your graphic novel project.
Thurs. Continue to work on your graphic novel project.
Fri. Write presentation note cards and practice your presentation. We start giving presentations on Monday, Feb. 13.

Week of Jan. 30-Feb. 3

Mon. Complete the outline. Start on your Works Cited page if you have time.
Tues. Works Cited page is due on Wed. Also, write an introductory paragraph complete with a thesis statement.
Wed. Continue to write your research paper.

Fri. Finish your research paper. Self edit first. Then have at least one other or two adults to read over your paper to give you feedback.

Tues. Students are reading the last section of Drowned City today. If your son or daughter does not finish in class today, he/she is welcome to stay after school today to finish or to come in tomorrow at 7:55 A.M. to complete the work. At home students can work on the vocabulary from the story. We will not have a vocabulary/spelling unit this week.

Wed. Start reviewing the vocabulary from Drowned City and looking over returned questions to help prepare for the test on Friday.

Week of Jan. 9-13

Mon. Complete part A of Unit 11 vocabulary. Be sure to write out sentences. Study for your preposition quiz. Knowing your song will help. We will be having a quiz over pp. 1-21 of Drowned City, so review your questions that should have been completed in class.

Wed. Start studying for the vocabulary and spelling quizzes on Friday. Continue to read AR. Look over what we have read of A Christmas Carol to prepare for the quiz.

Thurs. Study for the vocabulary and spelling quizzes over unit 10. Read AR since tomorrow is the last day for quizzes this quarter, and Monday is the first day for AR quizzes for third quarter.

(All students should have completed this work in class since they were given enough time to do so.If your child did not use his/her time in class wisely, then he or she should come to school on Tuesday by 7:55 A.M. to work in my room.)

Week of Nov. 14-18

Mon. Write your story. You should finish part 6 crisis, part 7 treasure, and part 8 result. Go back and read over your story. Improve the parts that need it.


Tues. Write your story. Finish part 9 the return, part 10 new life, part 11 resolution, and part 12 status quo. Again, go back over your story to edit it.

Wed. Go through your story and cut it down if it is too long. Fill out the first two columns of the Sentence Opening Sheet: the first four words and the verbs. Then proofread it for capitalization, punctuation, grammar, spelling, fluency errors, etc. Improve your story. Have several other people read it. We print the stories on Thursday, so they should be ready to be printed at the end of class on Thursday.

Thurs. Study for unit 7 spelling and vocabulary quizzes.

Fri. Read Notes and ch. 1 of Blizzard of Glass. Answer the questions and define the one vocabulary word. (We did this in class. All students who were in school in my classes should have completed this assignment in class.)

Week of Nov. 7-11

Mon. Complete the prewriting sheet about the hero, villain, and mentor by Wednesday. Start on the prewriting, but it doesn't need to be completed until Wednesday.


Tues. Complete the prewriting sheet for the two settings of your story. If you didn't finish Monday's assignment, then complete it.

Wed. Today in class, students are to work on their pie chart for their story. Also, students should have a theme/moral for their story.

Thurs. In class today, students are to work on the Status Quo, the call to adventure, and the assistance portions of their stories. Whatever a student does not finish is his or her homework tonight.

Study for the vocabulary and spelling quizzes for unit 6.

Fri. In class students are to work on the departure, approach, and a portion of the crisis. Again, what one doesn't finish in class, one should complete as homework.

Week of Oct. 31-Nov. 4

Mon. Complete the hero's journey pie chart available on Classroom after you have watched the videos. The hyphenated modifier examples and the figurative language paragraph are due on Wednesday, but students had plenty of time to finish these in class.


Tues. Begin thinking about your hero, villain, and mentor for your fairy tale. Continue to read AR. Remember: November 16 is midterm. You should have at least 10 points by then.

Wed. If you did not finish the Archetypes worksheet in class, then finish it using Google Classroom. Remember that you only had to have five of the examples completed. Study for your spelling and vocabulary quizzes.

Thurs. Study for vocabulary and spelling unit 5 quizzes.
Fri. READ AR! We are rapidly approaching midterm, so students should have half of their AR points by then. Think about your hero's journey/story that you will be writing this coming week. Consider what qualities your hero will have, what flaw, where his/her story begins.

Week of October 24-28

Mon. Complete English worksheet p. 380 over clauses. Also, read "Zoo" starting on p. 341 in the literature book. Complete worksheets 170 and 171 over the story.


Tues. Complete English ws. 81-82 over simple, compound, and complex sentences. Start reviewing for the test on Friday.

Wed. Complete English ws. 381. (LA 1-2 also do ws. 79.) (LA 3-5 and LA 6-7 also do ws. 83.)

Thurs. Study for the unit 4 spelling and vocabulary quizzes. Also, study for the sentence unit test in English. Use the Writing Coach book that is online to practice simple subjects/simple predicates, types of sentences, clauses, conjunctions, simple-compound-complex sentences, and identifying fragments and run-ons.

Fri. We have an English test today and vocabulary and spelling quizzes. Read AR this weekend. You have no other homework for my class. Enjoy!

Tues. Do English worksheet p. 63 and p. 64. Also, read p. 217, p. 288, and the story "Seventh Grade" which starts on p. 290. Complete questions 1, 2, and 3 all parts for Wednesday.
